To Quote Mel Krieger “…the double haul makes every aspect of fly-casting easier and more efficient”.

To quote another master, Lefty Kreh described hauling as “a skill that is second in importance only to a proper, well mastered casting stroke. Hauling is a technique that I do not fish without when using single handed rods”.

The technique of hauling involves pulling on the line with the line hand during the casting stroke. When this is done while the rod is under load, it has the effect of increasing the load on the rod, causing it to bend more. With correct timing a dramatic increase in line speed can be achieved with very little effort.

To learn the technique takes a little practice, as it does involve some rather unnatural hand movements, but we can show you some strategies to ease this. The result will be well worth the effort.
